Does anyone not see intelligent design for what it is? Creationism, masking itself as a valid scientific theory. New packaging for a defunct theory.

The age of the earth is estimated to be 4.55 billion years, based on detailed scientific evidence. This includes radiometric dating of the oldest known minerals on the planet, and calculations by astronomers of the age of the solar system.

Believe what you want, yes. If your beliefs are not based on any real facts, how is it justifiable to teach them in schools as fact. Creationism offers the biblical view that God created the earth and its creatures fully formed within the last 10,000 years. In 1987 the Supreme Court ruled that creationism is a religious belief that cannot be taught in public schools

It seems to me like this contreversy is a throwback to when Copernicus theorized that the Earth was not, indeed, the center of the solar system. People couldn't understand that the Earth was actually in motion. Now, people can't believe that we, *gasp*, evolved from other animals. The creationist view explains that we share much of the same genetic material, not because of evolution, but because God made us compatible with plants and animals for use as food. Hmm...

It all seems like a very human-centric view of things. Similar to when people didn't want to believe the earth wasn't the center of the universe. I guess people don't want to believe that humans came from the same process as every other plant and animal on the plant. They can't believe that we are the same as all other animals, maybe a little smarter. And that's only a maybe for a reason... I think it's kind of comforting to think of all inhabitants on Earth as being connected in some way to the planet. If more people took this view, maybe we wouldn't kill each other so often, maybe we would take care of the planet a little better...

Personally, I think creation and evolution are congruous. Maybe instead of taking 7 days to create paradise, god took 7 billion years, and just dumbed it down for us into a cute little story. Surely 7 billion years go by in a blink for God anyways. And on a side note, I was always confused where God came from. If nothing existed, how did God create us in his own image. He didn't have an image. Unless... maybe a parallel dimension. Hmmm, more on this later.

(An Evolutionist's Evolution)

So why is this an issue. A precedent was set by our legal system almost 20 years ago. Who decided it was a good idea to make this their fight. I love how Republicans say that want to nominate judges who are strict interpreters of the constitution. Yet, Roe v. Wade (1973), and Scopes Trial (1925) are hot issues, even though they have been decided, and have been a part of our laws and constitution for many years.

Once again with my theory, I think stupid people are taking over the world. Thanks, George W...

Bush Remarks on Intelligent Design Fuel Debate

Blogs:

But, Intelligent Design, as a scientific exercise is flapdoodle (to Quote National Review's John Derbyshire). Let me give you an example of the problem with Bush's "people should be exposed to different ideas" mantra, when applied to scientific education. In math class, 2+2=4. Is it really valuable to teach them that "some people" say it equals 5. Or to expose innocent math students to postmodernist philosophical crap about their being no truth? No, of course not. It is a waste of time. 2+2=4 is simple, provable exercise. I suppose you could teach someone, using Algebra to DISPROVE that 2+2=5. But, at some point you have to decide that 2+2=5'ers are off their rocker and don't ad anything to the discussion.
