Hurricane simulation predicted 61,290 dead

WASHINGTON (AP) -- As Katrina roared into the Gulf of Mexico, emergency planners pored over maps and charts of a hurricane simulation that projected 61,290 dead and 384,257 injured or sick in a catastrophic flood that would leave swaths of southeast Louisiana uninhabitable for more than a year.

How disgusting. What does it take to get rid of this guy? President Bush's approval rating is at 40%.

Reuters: With President George W. Bush promising to speed help to anxious and frustrated survivors of Hurricane Katrina, questions emerged on Friday over the qualifications of those leading the relief effort. Many of those at the top of the U.S. agency charged with managing disaster relief had no emergency oversight experience but did have political ties to Bush, the Washington Post reported.

New Orleans
Excerpt from The New York Times:
That a corpse lies on Union Street may not shock; in the wake of last week's hurricane, there are surely hundreds, probably thousands. What is remarkable is that on a downtown street in a major American city, a corpse can decompose for days, like carrion, and that is acceptable.

Welcome to New Orleans in the post-apocalypse, half baked and half deluged: pestilent, eerie, unnaturally quiet.

Scraggly residents emerge from waterlogged wood to say strange things, and then return into the rot. Cars drive the wrong way on the Interstate and no one cares. Fires burn, dogs scavenge, and old signs from les bons temps have been replaced with hand-scrawled threats that looters will be shot dead. (Read the article in its entirety.)

Ooh, I liked this headline for the story: Gay Bill Terminated

Also: Gay Bill Terminated, Quote, Hurricane Season, Embryo With Two Mothers, Natural Gas 71% increase.

I just saw something that made me rather upset... I was looking at Matt's blog, and saw that Joe had left a comment on one of Matt's posts telling him to give him a call to see what was going on. First of all, unless purely out of spite, Matt doesn't like Joe. IMHO, there is no reason for Joe to try to contact Matt other than to get under my skin. Congrats, you're successful. Joe talked shit about me to Matt for 4 hours, so I have justifiable cause to be aggravated about this... Also...

Hobo: Hey man, can I have a buck?
Abercrombie: No, I'm sorry, I only have $2 on me.
Hobo: Come on man.
Abercrombie: I'm really sorry pal...I need it.
Hobo: Come on! You're pretty and pretty people are never broke.
Abercrombie: Yes we are! We just look better in it, now leave me alone!

Well, I've been really busy today. My day started off with manual labor, and no coffee until about 10:30. That's harsh for me...

I went home for lunch and did the whole email checking thing. Got a couple good ones. ;) I also talked to Walter briefly, but he was in the checkout line at Target, so I didn't keep him. That is the worst when you are trying to shop and someone is calling you... lol

Well, I managed to install the cable modem via USB so it works on one computer now. What a frickin' pain. Anyways, I forgot to mention in my previous post that I bought a fabulous new outfit on Saturday, which was yet another reason I wanted to go somewhere other than Alibi. (More)

I had a great labor day weekend. It is so nice to have 3 days off. Shane got his first paycheck, so he was all about going out and spending some money. It was almost like his first weekend here all over again.
